About Us

The La Nasa family at the Piriapolis zoo July 2009 We’re Brad and Lisa La Nasa, who after many years of consideration, decided to take the leap and move abroad in March of 2009 with our then-15-month-old daughter Geneva.  We are formerly of Minneapolis, MN, currently living in Montevideo, Uruguay.

We chose Uruguay due to the economic and political stability, Spanish language, similar time zones to the US, high level of education and quality of life, among many other considerations.  An exploratory trip in March of 2008 (with then-3-month-old Geneva) sealed the deal for us and we put the pieces in place to move. We are now expats exploring the joys and struggles of international living!

Being self employed affords us the flexibility to make such a move.  Brad is the owner of an independent, specialty travel agency, Pangaea Travel and Pangaea Insure and I (Lisa) run an interior design firm so aptly named Lisa La Nasa Design.  We both work with clients in Minnesota and across the USA.

Thanks for visiting  www.urmovingwhere.com and following our adventures as expats in Uruguay!

Greeting from Coon Rapids Minnesota! Confratulations on your recent move to Uruguay. I was traveling with my brother around Christmas and spent about 10 days in Buenos Aires, 5 days in Montevideo and 2 weeks in Brazil. I really like Punta Del Este. I am wondering how you made the choice to settle down in Montevideo. Are you still in a drought like when I was there? I am possibly going to move to Punta Del Este before 2010. Can you recommend any web sites or books to help me relocate to Uruguay? I lived in Mexico for three years so I have a decent ability to speak spanish. But I will need to work and make money while in Uruguay. Is it possible to ope a meal replacement smoothie shop on the beach? Thanks for your help!

Hi Lisa and Brad and Jack. Perhaps Lisa and Brad know it, there is a group helping immigrants and expats in Uruguay called The Southron Society. The web site is http://www.sociedadsouthron.net/forums/. I am an uruguayan native, live in the Old City at a restored 1915 art nouveau house. Your are more than welcome to get in contact and visit whenever you like. Regards. Oscar

Funny you should mention that. We just posted our blog link on the Southron forum this evening and it was one of the subjects of our post from June 7th. It’s a great resource! Thanks Oscar and Jack!

Hi Brad, Lisa, and baby G,

My mom and her husband are considering moving there next year. I have a year and a half before I can retire from the Air Force, and then I am considering moving there with my 4 year old son. My question is: From your experience, what types of businesses do you think would be profitable down there that are not there now? You mentioned Yoga in your blog…are there a lot of yoga studios? Massage therapists? Lingerie shops? Bed and breakfasts? My mom and I are throwing around many business ideas and we would love your opinion as to what may be needed (some USA flare…) in that area?

Thanks and congrats on your big move!

    Sincerely,
    Renee

hello… a friend told me about your travels and site. as i read some of your blog, i became curious about your travel mission. is it more of an extended vacation?

we have travelled and lived in a few different countries over the past 11 years. travel is a passion. my husband and i love to learn, explore, participate and find ways we can share/give back to others. we have found the greatest reward comes when we can contribute. it keeps us humble. the more uncomfortable we are we learn and grown the most.

just curious if your original plan has evolved the longer you are here.
