We're in a potentially-similar situation: my wife and I live in California and we are seriously considering moving to Uruguay along with our 13-month-old daughter. Your posts about children in Uruguay are particularly appreciated! We've done a lot of digging around, but information about the country seems harder to come by than most. (Between the two of us, we've lived in the USA, Canada, UK, Costa Rica, Germany and Taiwan, so we have a decent feel for the "living abroad" thing!) I was wondering if you might be willing to share any information you have gleaned about the following: - general costs of long-term rental for an apartment or house. We've seen info in various places, but a lot of it is dated. We tried looking at the rental ads in an online version of one of the local newspapers, but we couldn't quite figure out the pricing system. (We think we've determined that rent is paid semimonthly, but we're not entirely sure...) - costs of child care (if you've looked into it--it wouldn't be full time for us, but we'd be hoping to find a part-time nanny for around 2 days/week) - how you decided to deal with the immigration system and residency permits, given that you own your own businesses?
